Martin Group was founded in Mitchell, South Dakota in 1970. The company initially focused on providing engineering services to ILECs in South Dakota. In 1974, the company began to expand geographically as well as into financial consulting services for ILECs. In 1978, Martin Group designed VMS®, a USOC-oriented customer care & billing solution. In 1980, the company was reorganized as a sub S corporation. Martin Group's software development team was sought after in 1995 to develop a revolutionary OSS/BSS solution for the competitive market. In 1999, TA Associates and Summit Partners acquired a majority ownership interest. Martin Group acquired Missoula, MT based GeoEconomics in 2002, a privately held provider of facilities management software and services. The addition of the GeoExplorer applications suite further enhanced and expanded Martin Group's capabilities for asset and network management.
